Dr Michaela Plata - Vet
- BVSc/BVBiol (Hons)
Michaela grew up on a Boer goat and Cattle property in Narrabri, North West NSW. It was from those beginnings her love of farm animals began. After local high school, she undertook Veterinary studies at Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga, NSW where she started to really develop a passion for cattle practice, even taking it to Pakistan to work with dairy cattle in regional villages of North Pakistan. Following graduation, she started her veterinary career in Goondiwindi, QLD and learnt the ropes in all the wonderful things mixed animal practice can offer. Cattle pregnancy testing and Bull testing were her favourite parts of the job. After cutting her teeth in Goondiwindi she moved to the city with her husband to be closer to family. She has a German Short-Haired Pointer called Rio, a Rhodesian Ridgeback called Moshi and a Black cat called Pippin as her fur family. After working between Murrumba Downs Vet and Old Mill Veterinary Hospital for the last 2 years, we are lucky to call Michaela our Full-Time veterinarian at Old Mill Animal Hospital. She thoroughly enjoys the variety of Dayboro veterinary practice and is dedicated to treating all of the species that come her way.
Dr Emily Mabbott - Vet
Emily graduated from the Royal (Dick) Vet School in Edinburgh. Not being fond of the infamous British climate, she moved to Hong Kong to work in a busy small animal practice and the Hong Kong Jockey Club. Emily then travelled the Australian East coast and fell in love with all things Aussie. She took a job at a busy mixed practice in the western suburbs of Brisbane. Five years later Emily moved to the north side of Brisbane and started working at Old Mill Animal Hospital in 2016.
Emily enjoys the varied caseload that working at Old Mill brings- from first time visits with new puppies & kittens to the lovely greying muzzles of our older patients, unwell feathered friends as well as the occasional woolly patient.
Emily is currently on maternity leave, adding another addition to her troublesome duo at home- her toddler and a rather naughty Staffy cross “Nitro”. Emily is looking forwards to returning to work at Old Mill in early 2019.
